Mega Typhoon is a shoot 'em up game (sometimes considered a Raiden clone for the AMIGA computers) that runs at full 50fps, with very responsive controls. It's actually the fastest vertical scrolling shoot 'em up ever made for those computers (respectively, the fastest horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up is Cardiaxx). Mega Typhoon came out in 1996, a year that there were plenty of high quality vertical shoot 'em up games.

Mega TyphoonSTORY / GAMEPLAY
In Mega Typhoon you control a spacecraft that sports some very puny weapons. Even at the early stages of the game, your spacecraft has some very handy sets of lasers with which you can take out just about anything that flies around (Tip: it's better to set your joystick to auto-fire). Mega Typhoon is a typical vertical shoot 'em up where you maneuver your fighter to the left or right and pick up some useful extra power ups like rockets, homing missiles, side-shots and extra lives. You can also press the space-bar and activate a smart bomb that effectively wipes out enemy ships.
The game is very fast, especially during the end-level boss fights and the action is more frenetic than anything you ever seen for a long time on the Amiga (remember Cardiaxx?). The game successfully manages to be quite close to the 1996 Japanese arcades and it's quite fun although sometimes it may get chaotic, frustrating and unfair.

GRAPHICS / SOUND
The game's graphics are nicely done but with a limited palette of up to 22 colors on-screen and some strangely chunky sprites! It’s obvious that the team behind Mega Typhoon kept those specs so that the game can run super smooth and fast, though I believe that even the OCS Amiga could perform fast, smooth scrolling in 50fps, with at least 32 colors and better looking sprites
The game's sound is considered poor for its time and the Amiga's stereo capabilities and offers only a few sampled sound effects (like explosions etc) and no in-game music (except for the quite good introductory theme).
